Contract Phones
June 15, 2011
The biggest advantage of having a contract phone is that you don’t have to pay for a phone up front and you can usually have a really nice phone included in your package. Some mobile phone companies will also go the extra mile and offer a free Xbox, PS3, or Laptop by signing a long contract of usually two to three years. While these packages may seem amazing it is important to know how much your contract will be and for how many minutes and if texting is included as you may end up paying more in monthly fees then other providers.
The most common type of mobile phone carriers in the UK include Orange, O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile, and Three. They all offer long term contracts and some even offer a decent monthly package for a reasonable price. You do need to be aware of network roaming charges but you can easily ask a mobile carrier representative explain these charges to you and what to expect to pay if you are outside of your local network coverage area. There are sometimes long distance fees applied to your phone bill and it is important to know this as they may be very reluctant to reimburse you when you find out after the fact.
Make sure when you sign a contract that you read the terms and agreements to protect yourself from any scares later on in the event you want to switch. Sometimes mobile carriers will charge a heft cancel fee and can be a bit nasty. But contracts are good for knowing your monthly bill will mainly be the same each month and you can budget for it in advance.
